About Cybernetic Showdown
Cybernetic Showdown was created some time after a friend of mine lost her main account on Neopets, which had an infamous Deaf Desert Kyrii named Sadiyah and her Faerie Cadro interpreter, Mu'awin. The reason being that she was thinking of doing something, but it was against Neopets' Terms of Service to do so. They froze her account even though she didn't do the thing she was only thinking about doing. It got me to thinking, if they could freeze her then main account just for her thinking of doing something (but not actually doing it), then just about anybody's accounts could be frozen...including my own which has a Robot Kougra with Christmas Buzzer petpet who were friends with the aformentioned Kyrii & Cadro (it hasn't yet, but that's not to say it might or might not in the future).
I then decided to make a non-Neopets related version out of one of my Neopets (the aforementioned Robot Kougra) to turn into an original fiction character that I could use without worrying about getting frozen, suspended or deleted just for thinking about something and not acting on said thoughts. That's when I came up with the idea of making the site...but at the time I wasn't sure what to call it. I wanted a name that would be easily remembered, yet something that wasn't already taken. I then came up with four different names to choose from: Cybernetic Showdown, Technical Difficulties, Mechanical Mischief and Variable Density.
At first, I leaned towards Technical Difficulties, but I started liking Cybernetic Showdown for a number of reasons. To me, it seemed to work with the theme of how I wanted Michi to be, a cyborg anthromorphic snow tiger dealing with more than life's intricate little problems. I settled on the name of Cybernetic Showdown three months before I came up with the first layout. The site, story and characters had been put on hiatus a number of times due to lack of real plot & ideas.
In amongst all this, I had also modified one of my longest lasting (and ever evolving) original characters into the mix, and of course, change her around a bit more. This is in reference to Tash Maw, who for the most of her existence had only been a character that I had used for role playing when Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs) were THE thing. Tash Maw started out in life as a 'Mewman' from the planet 'Mearth'. Far from completely original, but original enough in my eyes back then to not really be aware of the vast multiple ways that half-cat, half human (or even human with cat parts AKA cat girls) characters already existed. From 'standard' Mewman, to a Mewman-gargoyle hybrid with an extremely long and flexible tail that Tash Maw could use like a lasso (or even have hooked/hanging from the side of her belt). After the BBS had long since passed, Tash would hardly see the light of day, not counting the sporadic cameo in fan fiction based stories that didn't get very far. That is, until Cybernetic Showdown was created. Now Tash's "mission" in life is to be a mentor and companion for Michi.
